I am trying to rebuild my generator and I need a Delco number to cross reference for replacement parts for the generator or some part of the generator. If anyone can come up with a number I need to know what part of the generator the number is for or if the number is for the generator itself.

You can get a few parts for your generator from the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. Go here: www.fillingstation.com

mycar,
Following are original Chevrolet replacement part numbers for some parts of your generator, per 1941 Master Parts Catalog.

Brushes 1857959
Frame w/field coils 828111
Armature 1853593

I hope this helps. PM me if you need more info.

Here's a link to an extremely cool article on updating that generator with an externally invisible internal voltage regulator for improved performance.

http://www.ply33.com/Repair/voltreg.html

Plymouths of that era used Delco generators and the article originated on a Buick forum so it's definitely applicable to Chevys.

My project last winter was putting 3.55 gears in my '36 pickup using only OEM Chevy parts. This winter's project (actually just a day or two) will be this generator upgrade.

I purchased and installed the internal regulator about 5 years ago. After a few small problems it has worked well. Jim recommends a diode instead of the cutout. I have used the original cutout on both 1931 and 1928 Chevys. Just switch the generator between vehicles when going on a tour or extended driving. My 6 volt batteries are now lasting ~5 years and don't use water nearly as fast as in the past.

Chipper, what were the problems with the internal regulator conversion? I figure my installation will go more smoothly if I know what challenges you found.

It's like that 3.55 gear conversion I did. If I had it to do again it would only take a fraction of the time.

Thank you for helping me.

Ray,
I really don't remember what the problem was. If I remember it was the first one on a Chevy generator. It was not a major problem to get it to work. I have been very satisfied with the performance.
