I know that the hood needs to stay up by itself for judgung purposes. Is there a rule-of-thumb for how far open it must be? Is the presence of a hood prop in the engine compartment a deduction even if it's not in use?
Thanks.

Bob, Obviously you would not want to keep the hood closed during judging due to the large number of points that the engine compartment has in the judging process. There are some safety and liability issues here that should be addressed. If you need to prop the hood that is going to be some deductions and the judging team member who is responsibile for the engine compartment needs to have a clear and unobstructed view of that area. More importantly, if a team member or meet attendee accidently trips the prop there can be a possibility of injury and damage to the car. May I suggest that you try to remedy the problem, if at all possible before you have your vehicle judged?

Some thoughts on the Judging Team, restricted to a narrow subject. When it is time for the hood, door or trunk lid to be opened the Team Chief should, a) Ask the owner to do so if present or b) Open or close them himself as a duty of the Team Chief.
