Have a look here. Not a frightening price, this one, I think.

hoppy: It has been my understanding that 1925 was the first year for valve covers by Chevrolet. I have no knowledge of the Baby Grands so perhaps they were different. If anyone knows for sure, I would appreciate knowing. My '24 does not have a valve cover and I was told it is original. (being told by a seller doesn't make it so)

That valve cover is the same as on my Olds truck which uses the same 224 CID the Baby Grands or FA and FB used. My guess is all of those 224 engines used it. My buddys 1919 Chevy Model T truck also has that valve cover, but it also has the Oldsmobile script intake cover plate so it might have had an engine swap at some point. He was told it had the original engine but who really knows.

Yes, the early "expensive" (or bigger) models had valve covers. When the 490 was introduced in mid-1915 it did not have valve covers, and all the "small" (or cheaper) models (490, then Superior) did not have a factory valve cover until 1925. The 1925 had a unique, one-year-only two-piece cover. Then beginning in 1926, they all had the one piece valve cover.

My understanding is the H series Chevs and the F series had valve covers and the Chev ones were nickle plated for 1915 and 16. My very original Amesbury has the valve cover and the spark wire holder nickle plated. The 14-16 heads were Mason.
The F series also were nickle plated but had the 3 port heads, same as the Olds, The Olds valve covers were not nickle plated.
