I was told there was no such thing as a stupid question so here goes-what is best way to disolve rust in block(I have air assisted flushing tool)will soaking in CLR help-8-6-30 engine

Is the engine going to be rebuilt or is it still in the car.They make a rust remover called Evapo-rust might look at pumping some thru the block ,let it sit then flush block.Vat the block if your rebuilding it.Dont forget the freeze plugs.

The first thing to do is remove as much of the crud as possible before using any chemicals. When scrapping and blowing out debris be sure to wear protective equipment.
When you get to the chemicals be sure to read the instructions and precautions on the label and follow them. Weak or dilute acids are effective on rust and many hard water deposits. Chelating agents will also work. Solvents or caustics are used to remove grease and oil.

will do Chipper just don't know which product to use-want to disolve as much rust deposit in cooling passages as possible with head off(will do separately)-so can't bring up to temp and don,t want to contaminate new head when installed and did,t have chance before dissmantled-in other words I've never heard run but know it did 28yrs ago when stored but the scale is quite serious and I can,t afford to dismantle and dip-car really does have 13000 org. miles

With your situation my recommendation is to uses tools (wire, probes, etc.) to loosen as much as possible and then blow it out with air. Repeat the process until little or nothing is being removed. Remember to wear eye protection. Then use water, higher the pressure the better, to remove more stuff. None of the chemicals will work well but can be done after the engine is put back together and running.

With the engine out of the car, the head off and the freeze/core plugs removed, I used my pressure washer to blast out the crud. Worked great!
