I've run into a problem. I need to sew the piping on the edge of the visor but the thing is giving me all sorts of problems. The visor is thick so it doesn't just fit under the needle. Plus the piping needs to be on the edge of the visor, in the correct position, but using pins to hold could damage the surface. So...Has anyone ever tried to restore a sun visor and if so how did you solve the piping issue?

You need a commercial type machine and a piping or edging foot. You can use an upholstery adhesive or basting to hold the edging in place prior to sewing. Many upholstery shops don't have the necessary equipment to do the job correctly.

I'll give an upholstery shop a call and see if that works.
Thanks,

auto If you can't find an upholsterer, you might try a good shoe repair shop or someone else who commonly works with leather. Unfortunately, sometimes they are harder to find than an upholsterer! Beamer

There are still show repair shops around? With the advent of cheap chinese disposable shoes, the last repair shop went out of business around here years ago.

Saddle makers are easier to find than shoe repair shops.

There's an automotive interior guy in the next town listed under upholstery. I gave him a call and I'll take the visor to him on Saturday, but he seemed to think he could do it.

Thanks,
Brian
