Hi, well here is whats going on. 1941 Chevy, original 216 6 volt system. sound engine, all new points, plugs, wires, coil, plugs, carb,ect... She runs great except at higher speeds
50-60 mph when and not all the time I experience a buck or sharp quick resistense allmost like she wants to shut down....
But if I back off the speed it seems to stop acting up? I am thinking ignition, points ? What are some of your thoughts? It is driving me crazy''''''

This kind of problem is extremely difficult to diagnose long distance. Since you have replaced all the normal tune up stuff, plus the coil, carb, etc., I would first look to see if everything is hooked up O.K. such as are all the wires firmly connected or plugged in. Are the points grounding? I know you replaced the coil but sometimes a new one will be bad. That can cause the intermittent problem at higher speed. Fuel pump have good pressure? Did you clean the fuel tank and lines? Do you have a fuel filter on the car. It might be a good idea to put one on even if only temporarilly. The problem sounds more electrical to me than being fuel system related so I would double check all the components in that system. Good luck. Beamer

Weak fuel pump or junk in the fuel line. Its running out of gas.

If it acts up at a steady speed its likely to be ignition, if its fuel it should show up on full throttle in high gear from like 10 mph to 50. Another way to check to see if its fuel, if you have a propane torch put a rubber hose on the end and run to the top of the carb, when it acts up turn on the gas if it runs better look at the fuel system, if not go to the ignition system.

sometimes if it is a gas problem a little choke will make it suck a little more gas which will give you a clue if it is not getting enough gas. Dennis

Does it backfire? If so..I googled 216 chevy vacuum advance problems. Sounds like it could be that. I'm guessing. Just a thought.

I'm with Gene here. Sounds like you may be experiencing fuel starvation. Also, weak tension points could be "floating" at the higher speeds, but that's a long shot.
Good luck in coming up with the solution,
Charlie

I had this exact same problem on my 37, at the exact same speeds, 50 - 60 mph. Turned out to be some junk in the fuel lines. I would check the fuel system first. :)

I would also check the felt pad on the lid of the Air cleaner, i have heard of those becoming loose and sucking down onto the inlet and blocking the air flow off at higher speeds.
