This posting is for the members up in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I am trying to run down a rumor. Does anyone remember the very low mileage 1941 that the owner wrecked and was killed. I have heard about this from more than one source, but can't place the incident myself. It had to be several years ago. If this rings a bell for anyone please send me a PM.

There was a 41 Special Deluxe 5-passenger coupe that was out of Kansas or Nebraska that Bob Wingate ended up with in California. Also there was a 41 coupe that a doctor had. It was in California, also. It is my understanding that both cars were about equal (read almost perfect original condition).
One of those cars ended up being wrecked. Totaled. I think it was the Wingate one.
I don't remember if anyone was killed or not.
All the above is just what I remember being told or having read. I'm not positive about any of it.
Best, Charlie

The car (green coupe) that Windgate had is the same car that the doctor had. The Dr. bought it from Wingate. I never heard of it being wrecked.

Some years ago (15-20 yrs ???) there was a fella who used to bring a nice, low milage 41 to the NW Meets. I don't even remember the model. Maybe a sedan delivery?? It seems like his name was Phil XXXXX.
The story in this thread about the Bob Wingate car made me think of "Phil" and his car. But I can't remember much about it. I'm not postive he had a 41. But I am sure it was a 41-48. Any of you Northwest guys able to fill me in a bit?????
Bill.

Phil Cole's car was a 1941 Cabriolet. I think it went to a fellow up in the NE part of the state and I can't readily remember his name. The story I am looking for would involve one of the cars that have already been mentioned.

Hi,the accident in question was published in the old cars news sometime in the 80s. it happened somewhere outside seattle on the way back from a car show. As I remember in the article the driver in the 41 attempted to pass another vechicle and had a head on collision with a truck losing his life and totaling the chevy. I have the article in my collection of old cars news but will not be able to research it until dec as I am getting ready to go to the fall shows in pennsylvania. However I will reaserch it as soon as I can. I know some of the history of the underwood car which is the dark green car that wingate got out of neb and sold to dr underwood. When the dr sold the car it came east to mass. to a dealer/collector. I had the chance to buy the car for 32 grand which I could not afford at that time, and I have a few pictures of it at the mass. showroom. It was sold and went back to cal. and was shown at pebble beach and won an award. at that time, that picture was in old cars news. After pebble beach I have never seen anything about this car again in any of the publications I get, and this was a well publized auto up until that time. I hope the inquiry into this accident does not bring back any grief to the family of the deceased. Dennis

Thanks Dennis. Do you happen to remember who the driver was and which 41 Chevrolet? If you don't wish to publish the information here you may send me a PM or an email. Both addresses are in my profile. Again, thanks for plugging some holes in this story.
