So i know the right off places like Snyders or Macs has "600 Weight" but what will the proper on shelf description be that way i can walk into Napa without them looking at me like im from a diferent world?

The current oil being used is 80-90. Now that i read, i realise this is not the proper oil for the tranny or 3rd member but this is the only thing i could get, readily.

If the stuff is available at Napa or carquest, i would like to chnage the oil to 600 weight.

The Filling Station will ship you 600 wt. by the quart. If you don't want to do that NAPA should be able to get straight 140 wt. It is just slightly thinner than 600 wt. In the Horseless Carriage Club I purchased some rock mineral oil and have been using it in my transmission. Made all of the difference in the world for shifting. Once it was in the trans I had to thin it with Automatic Trans fluid to get the right wt. When it was cold it shifted hard so I added just enough down through the shifter hole to thin it out. Have not used it in the rear end because I would not know the right viscosity, but several in that club swear by it for older worn rear ends.

Most bulk oil suppliers can get it, the people who service industrial and farms businesses. Look them up in the yellow pages, call and ask them for 600W. Around our area they stock it for combines. Gary

Look for a Lubriplate dealer in your area. If I recall it goes under SPO-299. Just get the crap out of there ASAP. when I got my car, it had modern fluid in it. it leaked something fierce, it was in the diff too, leaked past the felt seals and destroyed the brakes. Once you change it, leave it in for a few weeks and drain and refill a second time. I found the residue corrupted the 600W. clean 600W is sticky like honey. The new gear oil made it runny.

Since both the transmission and the rear end use the 600W, I purchased a gallon for my car so I would have enough for the initial fill-up of both units and then some left over to add as needed.

600w gear oil is the equivalent of today's 160w gear oil. Find a 160w and it'll be the same thing.

I just checked with a local bulk oil distributor and he crossed the 600wt oil over to his Chevron Cylinder Oil W460. it was 14.92 per gallon and 74.60 for five gallons.

Just beware that modern gear oil has sulphur in it and will eat brass for breakfast. The proper 600W does not. Ask before you buy and if you get an "I don't know", walk away. If it smells like modern gear oil, then that smell is sulphur. The 600W I purchased form Lubriplate has no smell.

Hi guys, I have (2) 55 gal barrels of new old stock gear lube I bought from original dealers supply. I haven't checked to see if I can read any markings on the drums. But the dealer (or his son) is presently a sawmill owner and I could ask him for details. I would want to drive 75 mi to do so in person. I have been to the original location of the dealership which originally purchased the gear oil.

I will never need 110 gal for my own vehicles. Half-price (+S/H)(mostly just shipping)would seem fair if anyone would like to make a purchase just as if it were still yesteryear.
LtLarry, glad to do this for the "club".

Are you able to sell this by the gallon? And will you have a competitive price Vs. other suppliers?

About like me...I'd never use 110 gallons of the stuff...but i am intrested.
