Can anyone help me ID a master cylinder? I want to replace the master cylinder on my 38 Chevy. I have an extra cylinder with the following molded into it's side 5300967, 1'Dia.R-23, 3-12. Externally it looks identical to the cylinder on the car except for the size of screw-in end cap. The threaded part of the cap on my car is 1" diameter and the extra cylinder's is 1.25" diameter. Thanks, Fred Marc

Its a 1937 master cyl. Its basically the same as a 1938 and in the later years they sold one M.C. that covered 1937-1939. There was a slight difference in the 1937 in the area the check valve (up in front) was arranged.

Chevgene, Do you by chance know where I can get at rebuild kit for the 1937 M.C.? I have one for a 1938 but, as you said, the valve end is differant. Tha screw-in plug on the 1938 is 1" dia. and has a raised knob on the inside that accepts a rubber washer. The valve rest against this rubber washer. The end plug for the 1937 M.C. is 1.25" dia. and is flat. Thanks, Fmarc

Thanks. I looked at the kit on Obsolete's website and it looks just like the kit I have. It has a 1" dia. rubber washer and end cap sea. The master cylinder I have (supposedly a 1937) uses a 1.25" dia rubber disk instead of a washer and a 1.25" dia. end seal. Is your MC end cap 1.25" dia.? If so, how did you deal with this issue? Thanks, Fmarc
