Is this correct? Just purchase rebuild for my 29 and THe Filling Station recommends Not using Anti Freeze and to use that Anti Rust water pump lube #h-15. Ive never heard of using this stuff before.Im NOT talking about the water pump Grease.

Because of the tendency for these water pumps to leak air past the packing and the air causing foaming in antifreeze the Filling Station recommends water. I am not a fan of the anti-rust water pump lube but if you are going to use water then a heavy duty coolant inhibitor available from heavy equipment, over the road truck or stationary engine people is far superior to the "soluble oil" type products.

I personally use 1/3 to 1/2 antifreeze and keep an eye on the telltale signs of air (loss of coolant when the engine speed is reduced). If you really want to minimize problems with coolant loss install a coolant recovery tank and piping. It works great with our old low (or no) pressure cooling systems. As long as the overflow tube is connected to the bottom of the recovery tank and the radiator cap seals well the system will work fine.

WHen using water not anti freeze in car, is draining from lower radiator enough to rid water from engine as not to worry about any small areas which can freeze? I live in MinneSota

I have a coolant recovery tank on my 1930, works great. It's an cylinder (street rod product) which is attached to the radiator support. You know it's there but it's not obvious.

Just draining the water is not sufficient if you live in an area where temps can get much below freezing, particularly if you get into freeze thaw cycles.

Why would anyone use "just water" in the cooling system of any liquid cooled automobile?
It is foolish! I don't care who reccomends using "just water"!

Use a 50-50 mixture of a brand name antifreeze, coolant and distilled water to protect the entire system (engine, radiator and heater) from freezing, low temperature coolant boiling, corrosion and rust.

If your car won't hold coolant, fix the problem!...or buy antifreeze coolant in bulk!
Don't you value your vintage vehicles more than a rusty water bucket?
