- I'm getting a 1957 235 motor to replace 216
- motor has 3 speed transmission attached
- Guess there's no way I can use it in place of existing trans??

Not without changing to an open drive line.
Actully the internals of the 1957 trans. are improved but not that much different from the 1946.
