Most likely your engine number. Using it was common through '55. Not sure where it would be on a '34s engine. It's on the raised boss behind the distributor on a '38. If you don't have the original engine or Florida wasn't an engine number state with the data plate missing you'll have issues to work out with the California DMV. They WILL have a way to resolve the issue. You aren't the first to face the conundrum. Good luck.

First of all, there is no VIN on a 34. The number you have could be serial number of the engine or the body. Could you post some of the number you have to determine what is on your title?

Next, do you have a Master or A Standard? Body serial numbers are close to the same location but not exactly. The master will be on the main sill on the pass. side between the seat & the door hinge pillar. Standard will be on a board in front of the pass. seat. If you could also post any numbers that will be on an alum. plate on the firewall on the engine side?

Engine serial number will be on the engine where Tiny indicated which as he has indicated how Florida might have registerd it.....Joe

Normally, the authorities highly frown on tampering, changing, or replacing car serial numbers and VIN's....especially in California. If you want to install a new car serial number plate, I would wait until after you get your car registered and titled in California and then install the new car serial number plate with the correct numbers stamped on.

I am not sure which one it is... title just says 2D. How do you tell? The Vin is 12DA4487..... does that help figure it out?

Thanks

Your serial number looks made up. 12 is a plant code & DA is a 1934 master. The next 2 numbers should be between 01 & 12 indicating the month of production. Can you send me a picture of the tag with the numbers? jiaccino@amphi.com

No doubt that the serial number plate is probably missing since it was held in place with four small nails. At any rate, the serial number you posted above is a correct serial number but it is not complete since the serial number is missing the month of manufacture as Joe stated.

As posted above, there was no VIN in 1934....it was a car serial number.
