I've done the rust gunk removal in manual and chemical ways. I guess I'm getting old and lazy. Does anyone have a home made formula for these jobs. All the store bought stuff gets very expensive. Back in the old days guys were getting this job done. and they didn't have the great industrial complex to get it done for them. One of the things I've found that will remove grease etc. form your skin is cooked chicken fat. Not only does it remove better that the store bought stuff, it leaves your skin in great shape. PS my cat seems to like it as well.

The best thing I've found for removing grease from my hands is new motor oil followed by plain old soap & water.

I find using nitrile disposable gloves from harbor freight keep hands from getting dirty with grease, rust etc.

Joe's Hand Cleaner, it won't dry your hands
Nitrile Gloves, uncomfortable in hot weather
Dawn Dishwashing liquid, dries out skin

Havoline had a commercial on TV years ago having the Man with the Bright Red Texaco Star clean his greasy hands with 10W30 to demonstrate its detergency. Then it was discovered in laboratory tests that prolonged exposure caused cancer. (Some poor lab rat was probably soaked in the stuff for 6 months)

Man that Havoline oil stinks to high heaven, and looks clear and thin as water. I had an old 57 Chevy dump truck (power pac SB) that was sold to me along with a case of Havoline 30 wt. (It burned a qt. or 2 every day) the smell of that Havoline it burned and blew back was sickening. I haven't bought any of it since then. We always used Go-Jo with pumice and I still do, buy it by the gallon!.
