This may be difficult to explain, but how does the accessory hood ornament for the 36 attach to the radiator shell. It has two set screws with hex heads. It is attached but is not tight and you can remove it with your hand. I can’t figure out how to tighten the screws when it is installed.

You might want to pick up a complete set (12 issues) of the 1936 Chevrolet Service News from the Filling Station. The installation of the accessory hood ornament might be illustrated in the Service News.

Cool! You are going to find a lot of valuable information in the Chevrolet Service News.

I finally received the Service News and there is a lot of good information in there, but nothing on attaching the accessory hood ornament.

If, and that's a capital IF, it is the same or similar to the '35 Master ornament the set screws are tightened down to pinch the sheet metal in between the screw and the ornament. The threads are set at an angle so as you thread the screw the clearance is closed up.
Only issue is the screws are between the radiator and the grill, so you will have to loosen or remove the radiator to get access to these.

The ornament was attached but very loose when I bought the car. I removed the chrome center piece that goes down the center of the grill from the top to the crank hole. This ornament has the two set screws at an angle also. It may just attach to the center strip, but I am not sure.

Had the grill center and hood hinge re-chromed and I am ready to reinstall. However at the cost of the new plating I am tempted to set it on my mantle and just look at it!

Hi, I haven't had a chance to get in the on line Chev Chat for awhile, but are you still needing information on removing the `36 hood ornament? I have two `36's and have had them off a number of times. You do not need to pull the radiator and it's pretty easy if you have a long enough screw driver. If you're interested still, email me at mbd97@aol.com with your phone number, or I'll return mine to you. It's much easier to talk you through it than try to type out the procedure.
