I have a '54 belair. I will be putting my heater back in the car soon. Have been adding a new insulation blanket to the firewall. Had to remove the heater and found that I need to have the heater core repaired. None insulated firewall has been way to warm this summer. It was great last winter. Thats another story. My question is the heater hose hookup. I need information as to which hose goes where.

1. There are two hose hookup locations on the engine. The water pump and the thermostat each go to the heater.

2. There are two locations on the heater. The heater core and heater valve each go to the engine.

My thought is the thermostat hose goes to the heater core the heater valve goes to the water pump. Or maybe its the other way. Looking for a little help. Thanks in advance as it is best to have these heater hoses connected correct.

My 54 BelAir has one hose from Thermostat Housing to the bottom heater tube through the fire wall. The other hose from water pump to the top heater tube on the engine side of the fire wall. Hope this helps.

Heaters are supposed to have the hottest water into the bottom of the heater and coolest out the top. That would mean the hose from the head or block goes to the bottom and to the lower radiator hose or pump from the top.

Think I understand the hookup now, but just to make sure.

1. The thermostat housing connection will go through the firewall and connect to the heater valve.

2. The water pump connection will go to the firewall and connect to the heater core protruding through the firewall.

Finished the firewall insulation last night. I'm getting my heater core back from the shop today. Should have the car up and running soon. Thanks for the help.
