Hi all,
I recently bought a 1928 1/2 ton Chevy Canopy Express and it doesn't have an ID plate. I bought a reproduction, blank plate so I can stamp an ID into it, but I'd like to understand what the car numbers mean so I can create one that is reasonable for the vehicle.
The clues that I have are the following:
1. Comparing my truck to the pictures in the '75 Years of Chevrolet' book, it looks like the body was built by the Hercules company upon a 1/2 ton commercial chassis.
2. The number stamped into the block is X 4911163.
3. The casting date of the block is H 20 8 (Aug. 20, 1928).
Any help is appreciated!
