I was trying to replace Standpipe on carb and it cracked when trying to remove remains. Gary Wallace mentioned I would have to drill out old one and tap new threads. I went to auto machine shop and they said the threads were 11/16 X20 fine thread. Taps don't exist for that size. Does anyone have a stripped down carb for sale and if it needs a stovepipe whats the best way to remove and install.

Dob, The thread is 11/16-24 and not 20. Most threads in the Carter carburetors have 24 tpi.
First don't drill out the remaining parts! If you are lucky you will not damage the threads in the carb core by drilling. The best method is to unscrew the parts. If that is not possible then, it is far better to break out the remaining part instead of drilling.
Once you get the parts out and have the threads cleaned you will need to install the new standpipe. It takes a tool with four pins that fit in the holes in the standpipe to install properly. I made my first tool by brazing pins onto a piece of 1/4" pipe and then drilling two holes on opposite sides of the other end of the pipe so I could install a rod as a handle.
If you don't find the tools you need you can send the carb to me and I will help you get a working carb. I have rebuilt a bunch of RX-0 carbs. Email or PM me for more details.

That makes sense, the carb does have a crack in it and I want to find a replacement,I do have have all the parts. A few weeks ago someone was selling a stripped one on ebay. When I find one I may take you up on the idea of you putting new standpipe in it.
Thanks Bobk

They show up on ebay fairly often. They typically are not too expensive as they are reasonably common and not often suffer from corrosion damage as the RAJX-0 and RAKX-0 carbs do. Just make sure that they are not cracked or broken, the bottom of the casting (where the bolt nut attaches is flat and not corroded. Also the casting next to it where the low speed jet screws in.

Hi Bobk and Chipper, My recently acquired 1926 Superior came with a surprise. It has a new Zenith carb fitted and seems to perform well. Its a Zenith 14991B, which also has a 90 degree supplementary mounting gasket to align the holes. There is no accelerator pump, though the previous original carb didn't, either. Also, the throttle rod from the steering column isn't mounted and may not be able to be mounted. I am pleased with its performance, though. One website : http://www.thecarburetorstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3best of luck with the original carb. Jay

I had the standpipe broken on my 25 RXO. Got out the remains with a 18 mm drill in the lathe (turned by hand) and cleaned the threads with a dentist's tool. The operation (including soaking the treads in WD40) was a 6 weeks job, 1-2 hours every evening. Be patient.
