Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any total engine ignition advance figures for these years. I am interested, as the 1931 specs i have lists them under "Distributor" as being 15 degrees manual retard, and 26 degrees automatic advance. So working off an initial ignition setting of 18 degrees on the flywheel. plus 26 degrees of automatic advance would equal 44 degrees of total engine advance.

I am mostly interested in 1931's and 32's but as the distributor for 1931 633-G goes back to 1929 as well it is included, with the 1932 being a 633-J being a different model.

Thanks.

Just to add some more, the 1928 workshop manual lists engine advance for the 1928 model as 25 degrees manual advance plus 20 degrees Advance engine automatic, which equals 45 degrees Engine advance (Page 227).

It also lists 4 and 8 cylinder distributors with up to 50 degees of advance, ( 336-g and 366-j )
It also shows a diagram and states on Page 45 that "at fifty miles per hour firing will occur at the point marked D or 45 degrees.

Any one with some numbers for 1929-1932 ??
Thanks Jack

The centrifugal advance figure for Delco-Remy distributor model 633-G are as follows:

Advance starts at 700 engine rpm's with 2 degrees advance
At 2,000 engine rpm's,advance is 25 degrees
Maximum centrifugal advance occurs at 2,600rpm's and is
31 degrees.

Advance figures for Delco-Remy model 633-J are as follows:

Advance starts at 700 engine rpm's with 3 degrees advance
At 1,800 engine rpm's,advance is 23 degrees
Maximum centrifugal advance occurs at 2,600 rpm's and is
31 degrees.

Hope this helps.

The Delco-Remy Manual, and the National Service Manual for the 633-G show the following:

(All specifications are distributor speed and distributor degrees)

Automatic advance start: 350 RPM
900 RPM: 11.5 degrees
1300 RPM: 15.5 degrees

To convert the above to engine speed and engine degrees it would be the following:

Automatic advance start: 700 RPM
1800 RPM: 23 degrees
2600 RPM: 31 degrees

Thanks for the replies , CJP's29 and JY-Dog,
So that would be 12 degrees initial( workshop manual flywheel setting) plus 31 automatic to bring it to 43 degrees total engine advance. ( factory theoretical).

Right......plus another 6 degrees if you bump the timing to 18 degrees for today's gasoline, which would make the total 49 degrees engine advance.
