i have a 32chevy 2 door sedan that has been in my family since new.My uncle painted it maroon 45 years ago and i have the car now and want to paint it back to its original color. The data plate tells me the job and body numbers but the trim and paint codes are blank. My uncle thinks it was originally a blue car but not possitive because his grandfather had it painted black Any advice would be appreciated thanks

If you don't have the codes try to find some of the original paint. Check door frames and other parts that might not have gotten painted or only a light coating. If that does not result in finding the original color then carefully sand or scrape the overcoat until you find the color just in front of the primer. It would be extremely rare for the car to be stripped of all paint prior to repainting. You may need to search several places before you hit paydirt.

I have a 31 sport coupe that also does not have the trim codes stamped. Is this a common thing to find? My car was repainted over forty years ago also and appears to be the original paint scheme but the interior is not of the correct material. I had planned on finding the undercoat someday when I repaint. It was a good job when it was done. The back side of my dash panel has no paint, is this the norm?

Since your working on a 32, check the cowl vent area inside and out since this area gets over looked when repainting the car. When I started working on my 34 I found the original color all over my cowl vent.

Another place to check would be on the firewall (cowl) behind the rear of the engine. Most times that area is covered with greasy dirt and fast re-paints don't stick to it. Rub some of it off and you may see the original color.

The paint code for 1930 was stamped or stenciled on the driver's side wood main sill. Many times the paint code is missing due to wear or dry-rot on the main sill. For a complete list of the Duco paint combinations showing the various paint combinations, colors, and their locations, contact the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. They have the Duco Color Combinations available.

Sure enough I opened catalogue and there were color specs-thank you-now that I have your ear can u explain why on 30 4dr sedan the sill plate ends just ahead of front hinge piller and piece is missing from there to cowl angle brace-I read in Fisher body manual that springs were used here-am I confused and if not what size springs were used and did they go between frame and bracket-sorry If I'm long winded but you seem to know you're chevys-one last thing-what is easiest way to determine early from late
