Hello, all:
I'm a member of the Society of Automotive Historians, and I'm researching the production of passenger cars during the World War II period (and the associated sales, delivery, and registration figures) for every make of car in the world. I have been quite successful with regard to foreign makes.
I have discovered that some 1942 models of every U.S. manufacturer were frozen in storage after the government shut-down, and were subsequently sold (still brand-new) during late 1942, 1943, 1944, and the first half of 1945. Some states apparently titled the cars as new cars of the years they were sold in.
In the case of Ford, I have discovered that there was continued production of "Fordor" sedans (mainly) during the entire war period, for the military. I even have some figures. There were also foreign assemblies of American-type Fords in places such as Brazil and Sweden during the war years.
In the case of Chevy, however, I only have blurbs that blackout coupes and sedans were continued in production during 1943-44-45, for the military and gov't. Does anyone have any detailed information on these cars, such as production figures?
Thanks very much to anyone who can assist.
Bill
