Can someone tell me what is the correct model magneto for my 1918 chev.

A 1918 does not use a magneto. It has a distributor and coil.

Some,if not all export RHD cars used a SIMMS C4 magneto mounted on top of the generator,and were chain driven by a sprocket on the commutator end shaft.

Thanks CPJ - I thought that was the case but couldn't find a reference in any of my parts books. I have seen early 20s 490s with magnetos fitted down here in NZ.

My RHD 1920 490 is fitted with a Berling model E41. Manufactured by Ericson Manufacturing co. Buffalo NY

One of the 490s near Oslo, from 1922 has a Simms magneto, car assembled in Oshawa. It was more usual with magnetos than coils in Scandinavia, as far as we have been able to check. May be those cars was somewhat cheaper to buy or easier to use. The T-F**D had same preferences, I believe.
