Hey all I decided it was time to start to put the car together and try and get it on the road before the snow flies up here. During this past winter I took the starter apart to clean it and to see if it needs a rebuild. In my opinion (and a couple of others) it didn't need to be rebuilt and I went ahead with cleaning it up. It wasn't a complete tear down. When I went to put it in the car and try it out it made a noise that seemed to be the starter gear skipping on the fly wheel. I took it back out and bench tested it. My old school neighbour was with me and he thought it was working fine. Again I reinstalled it and again the gear skipping sound. Any thoughts ? Thanks, Cliff
not bad, yourself ? Thanks for asking.

Hey... Been away for the last couple of days.
Teeth on the fly wheel are good. Talk to a guy and he said the "spring" in the starter maybe weak and have to be changed. Could this be an issue ? Thanks, Cliff

If the Bendix spring is tweaked some it could be an issue but the Bendix Drive should still engage the flywheel. You might want to pull the nose cone on the starter and inspect the Bendix Drive and the spring. Do you have a new battery and is it fully charged?

JYD I have a brand new battery and it is fully charged. I will pull the nose off the starter tomorrow and see what's up. My neighbour is home tomorrow and I will have him check it out as well. His father owned a '32 special sedan and he seems quite familiar with these cars. Thanks, Cliff
