29 & 30 used a pilot bushing, 31 went to a pilot bearing. the 31 pilot bearing has an i. d. too small for the 29 trans. any suggestions on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

reduce the diameter of the input shaft to match the bearing I.D. It cost me $15. I used the excellent innards from a 30 to build a trans for my 31

I found an even cheaper solution. Measure the ID of the flywheel bearing seat and the OD of the shaft and go to a bearings supplier with the dimensions. They can supply a double sealed bearing that will do the job -- no machining needed.

IF you can find a bearing with the proper dimensions you MIGHT find one for less than $15. I've spent hours going thru bearing specification books looking to alternate engineer a project. sometimes it can't be done. Then again, Auto Zone might have one on the shelf

I went to Berry-Bearing, a local bearing supplier, with the 29 bushing and the 31 bearing in hand. They could not help me. I think I will just pull the input shaft out of the trans and have it machined down. I appreciate all the suggestions.

I bought the correct bearing in January of this year from Bearings and Drives, Inc., 9 Glenn Bridge Road, Arden, NC 28704 under part number GBC6202-2RS5/8 and paid $7.86 for it. It did a great job of mating up my '31 engine flywheel to my '29 transmission input shaft. Their phone number is 828-651-8724.

All the Best, Chip

This route would be less work and less money. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the info.
