Can I find out where my '29 Chevy 4-door International AC was produced by subject numbers?

They are:
Job No. 8850
Body No. K 7038
Does it represent anything else?

Thanks in advance.

That data tells us a bit about the body. Get as many numbers as you can from the block and the head. Report back here and you will get an answer.

Job Number 8850 = 1929 Standard Sedan
Body Nuumber K 7038 = Car built in the Kansas City, Missouri factory and it was the 7,038th Standard Sedan built in that factory in 1929.

Awesome information.

Continued:

Engine block:
835501
C 31 0

Behind fuel pump:
1696848

Generator:
Delco-Remy:
Model 943J
Serial 65126

Thanks again.

Engine block:
835501 = Block casting number used in both 1929 and 1930
C 31 0 = Block cast on March 31, 1930 (You have a 1930 engine instead of a 1929)

Behind fuel pump:
1696848 = 1930 engine serial number. (April, 1930 serial number)

Generator:
Delco-Remy:
Model 943J = Correct for 1929
Serial 65126

Your starter should be a model 714-L and your distributor should be a 633-G.

As indicated above your original 1929 engine has been replaced with a 1930 unit.

Thanks Guys.

Since my '29 6 cyl. AC Sedan has a '30 engine in it, which carburetor kit would I probably use?

From The Carburetor Shop:

1929 6 194 AC Carter RJH-08 125 835849 Kit 400
1929 6 194 AC Carter RJH-08 136 836126 Kit 301
1930 6 194 AD Carter RJH-08 150 836300 Kit 301

From The Filling Station:

AF-271 1929 Late through 1931

I am confused on the difference between 125, 136 and 150 listed above. What does this number indicate?

Thanks in advance.

It all depends upon which carburetor you have installed on your 1930 engine. Most likely you will want the CS-301 kit.

The numbers you listed are carburetor model numbers. The 125-S is early 1929. The 135-S is late 1929 and the 150-S is for 1930 and 1931.

Thanks Junkyard Dog.

I am at work so I did not know which carburetor I have.

I will have to check it out tonight.

I am somewhat dissapointed and surprise.

Cool enough now to mess with the '29 (with '30 engine).

Low and behold I find out tonight I have a "TILLOTSON" and not a "CARTER" carburetor.

Anyone with experience with this type of carb.?

Are there many parts available?

Would this be a comon case?

Should I consider a wholesale change to a Carter?

It has been running fine but I want to get rebuild kits for future. I could not even tell what model number it is but at least it is made in the U.S. of A.

Any thoughts?

Repair kits for Tillotson carburetors are very hard to come by and hard parts (if needed) are even harder to find. You would be better off to convert back to the original Carter 150-S carburetor since virtually every part for that carburetor is available, as well as the repair kit.

Junkyard Dog.

That is what I was exactly thinking. I dont want people to get confused with my carburetor and one you may find on a go kart.

I understand from a previous post that you or Chipper may have one available.

Let me know.

Should I begin a new post or even go to the "Parts Wanted" forum.

I am not sure I trust ebay.

I also assume the linkage may all attach directly to the Carter with no problem (ie choke cable, throttle cable etc...), Sping, fuel line etc...

You might want to contact Chipper Dipper since I believe he has a Carter 150-S ready to go.

I do have many '15 - '40s Chevy carburetors rebuilt and on the shelf. Have several '29 - '31 rebuilt, engine tested and ready to go. If I know what modifications were made to install the aftermarket carb, I can usually supply most of the parts to put it back as originally. Send me an email or call. The email address is in my profile and both in the G&D.

Chipper,

Thanks for the quick response.

I am going to attach what I have here at work.

I'll give you a chance to look over the image.

I will call tonight if that is alright.

I can also include more detailed pictures this evening before I call.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Looks like you are going to need a throttle return spring; the accelerator rod and attaching parts; a choke/throttle cable; and an air cleaner and pipe.

Thanks Junkyard Dog.

Now if I can get me a picture of that all in one place I will have a better idea of how it goes together.

Are you saying that my current choke and throttle cables are too short?

No, your choke and throttle cables should be just fine. I meant to say that you will neet a choke/throttle cable bracket and I left the word "bracket" out of my posting.
