Hello guys, new here, my name is Jason. I just got a pretty complete 31 chevy 5 window ..
[Linked Image from i39.photobucket.com]

and I have a few questions I would like to get answered.

im wondering about the space between the top of the rear decklid and the bottom of the rear window. is there some type of filler piece that goes there that i may be missing?
[Linked Image from i39.photobucket.com]
and under the doors, its just a wood rocker panel?
is this the way its supposed to be?
[Linked Image from i39.photobucket.com]
and above the front window, above the visor it looks like im missing something that fills in the front and connects the two front roof corners

nice looking project i did not notice your vcca no. if you are not a member you would benefit from the knowledge of some of the best to answer some of your questions .the deck lid to back window there is no filler piece inside there should be a traugh with a drain to catch the water that comes in . ther should be a rubber seal under the bottom . there is metal piece that covers the sills under the doors . i cant tell about the top front by the picture but the car looks to have a serious wood problem good news is you can buy a wood kit or pieces check the vendor list for parts . you will need books and be on the first name basis with the ta. tec. advisor . but it will be rewarding in the end good luck

You think my wood is real bad huh? none of it is warped, or cracked, there are a couple of areas that could use a freshening, i agree.
but overall its pretty complete and solid. it had sat in a home garage for over 30 yrs.
thanks for the help

Yes there is a filler piece missing above the visor. It is a little hard to tell from the last picture but looks like someone has replaced the cloth top insert with metal. Seems to be a good start but not too tough if you stick with it. The VCCA TA can give a lot of help as well as others in your area.

THanks again for all the advice guys! the hole is still in the roof for the cloth top it has not been filled.

I am a rod and custom builder by trade, just never built a chevy in the early 30's. which is ironic since I am a "chevy guy". but since these early chevy's are usually in pieces when found i have never really spent alot of time building them. I knew there were some pieces missing, and thought what better place to go to with questions than here?..lol no where! i am going to take some better pictures this week with the digital cam instead of this stupid camera phone. i do appreciate the advice and the help fellas. now my task at hand is to locate the missing filler above the visor, and the missing rocker panels.

It looks like the hood has closeable vents. Am I seeing correctly? Are these vents correct for a '31?
Just asking to learn more.

Your 5 window coupe was manufactured early in the 31 production time period. The later 5 window 31's had a panel between the rear window area and the trunk lid. This panel is similar to the panel on the sport (rumble lid) model. good luck w/your coupe.

Hey Sinner,
That is a good looking project you have going on! I can only hope that you are restoring it to as near original as possible. Any fool can "modify" a vehicle. What is a real art-form is to give up your ego and "restore" a vehicle. Are you a big-enough fellow to try that? If you are, we can help. By the way Jiaccino, get real. Bill/KC Wood Mfg.

All the best, Bill

Dear Joe,
Good Point! While we do have a lot of these parts on the shelf, we do not have them ALL in stock. To clarify my immature comment, I was just a bit miffed to not even get an honorable mention. Your recomendation to go to Mr. Rodman was a good one, we send people to him often, if we do not have the patterns for the parts they need. Thanks, Bill

Hello Jason,
Welcome to this forum, and I repeat, that is a good looking project you have taken on. After having removed my foot from my mouth, picked crow feathers out of my teeth, and wiped the egg off of my face etc., I am taking another shot at communicating with you. It is true that I personally like to see these old girls restored back to original, but it is you car and you can and should do with it as you will. My former message was misleading in that we do not just sell parts to those who restore to original. We will sell high-quality reproduction wood parts to ANYBODY!We have even been known to sell parts to (gasp) street-rodders! Welcome aboard Jason, and if Mr. Rodman can't help you I hope you will give us a call. Thanks, Bill/KC Wood

All the best, Bill

Thanks for your comments. I don't think i would send anybody to Rodman for a new undertaking. He's been working with a guys early 32 sedan delivery for 4 years because he doesn't have the patterns. Now a man with his back ground with fisher bodies should be able to build a replacement piece for the missing parts. It doesn't have to look like the original as long as it's structually sound. This is why i contacted you on my 31 sedan delivery. Joe
