Hi Jack, I took mine apart last fall for a re-build. I did it my self except for the machining. Had a local shop do that. If you look into the search part of these forums, they have excellent information, step by step, for dis-assembly and reassembly on the Knee Actions. But unless you feel strong that day, I would take them apart while their still on the car. Hope this helps.

I rebuilt the ones on my '37 coupe and added lip seals in place of the packings. They've been back in the car for a couple of years and I have yet to see a drop of leakage in 4k miles or so.

I did do the disassembly on the bench and the rework required a mill (I had to bore out the cross shaft housing on the spindle side to enable fitting the lip seals). I also needed my lathe to turn new bushings as mine were too worn to use.

Once you get into it, I'll be glad to offer any info needed.

There is a write up I could send you that was done by a member several years ago and, I believe, published in the G&D. It doesn't cover the rework for the lip seals, but it's a good reference work.

I offered to do a write up of how I did mine on here, but was rudely (I thought) told a write up had been done and another wasn't needed. So be it!

Here is a first class article on how to do it. I think if Bowtie Bob did a write up that would be very cool also.
