Hello Chevy lovers:

Would like some advice on how and what color to paint my 32 cabriolet. First, I notice that some cars in that era had the lower part (fenders, under door panel, gas tank apron, etc.) painted black but more interestly the rumble seat and border areas of the rear of the car. Have you seen this rumble seat color combination, and how does it look in person?

Second, have narrowed my color selection to: either a very light yellow/cream above black lower, or maroon and black. You thoughts on each of these presentations.

Any thoughts or even better pictues of your car would be much appreciated.

Jim

What does the paint number on your cowl tag indicate?

It was all black, but intend to stray from original.

I think Bangor Beige and Haverhill Brown with black lower sheet metal and Cream Medium wire wheels looks very rich on a cabriolet. The paint number is 95 and that color combination was used on the 1932 cabriolet.

Jim, you may want to get the original painting instructions, available from the Filling Station, before you do the paint job. It has all the details of what was painted what color and the information for the correct pinstriping. I haven't looked, but I'd guess they have one for the '32 Cabriolet.

All the Best, Chip

You can see my yellow '32 up by my name. Even though it was painted by a major name in Chevy collecting, I think that it is too bright. The charts show that a yellow '32 whould have had black fenders and wheels. Red wheels were availble but not in this color combination. I don't know how much color counts or counts off in official VCCA judging. I don't recall loosing any points on mine.

Since the VCCA does not recognize the valuable information that appears on the cowl tag during the judging process, the judges don't really care about the color combination as long as the vehicle is painted a color that was offered in 1932.

I don't know guys. If your car was black I would stay with that color, I did. I loved my Sport Coupe in black and chrome with the Cream wheels. Your car with the tan top and tan spare cover would look outstanding, and all original.

You'll have a classy looking automobile, best of luck with it!

For my soon to be painted '32 Cabriolet, I'm going with #96, Inverness Green and Inverness Green Dark with black fenders.

I hope to visit Jay Hertz in Albuquerque sometime this summer to look at his Cabriolet. It appears you live in the same city. Any chance I could stop by and take a look at your work in progress?
