It just leaks a little gas in the front of the carb.It has just started doing this so I figured it might be a good time to have the carb rebuilt.

Are you still needing your carb rebuilt? If so, I can do it for you. I rebuild Rochester and Carter 1 & 2 bbl carbs. Let me know.

If I were you, I would want to get someone that is a VCCA member to rebuild the carb, and be sure to find out if they can supply the NOS parts to replace the throttle shaft and re-bush the carb throttle body.
Check out the member services page in the G&D.
I don't do throttle shaft rebushing, it is not economically effecient. I replace the entire throttle body. Most of the ones that leak a small amount after the car has been driven for a half hour or more do so because of a hot engine causeing the gasoline perculateing in the float bowl and the gas will flow down the inside of the carb and out the throttle shaft, also usually flooding the engine and causeing hard hot starting. They don't leak when the engine is running when there is a vacuum inside the throttle body. I have cured most of the problems by lowering the float shut off of the needle and seat valve, but that does not always work if the throttle shaft is badly worn. Check the insulator block between the carb and the intake manifold flange.

Well I finally decided to bite the bullet and try to take on the rebuild myself.I figured that I wasn't going to learn anything by having it rebuilt by a pro,so why not give it a try?? I wish I had tried it months ago!!! Luckily,my carb didn't have any warpage to it,so it came apart and went back together-after a LOT of cleaning with no issue.I can't get over how nice the car runs now,I had purchased a float,a rebuilt kit and a carb from a swap meet for extra parts, which together cost me about $65.00. It took me a little over an hour to do and I had to use a magnifier at times, but,I am glad I tried it myself. I hope this encourages others to try to do things themselves, you never know what you are capable of until you try it.Oh one other thing......It was a heck of a lot of fun!!

Yeah! isn't if nice when a well thought out and step by step plan works out all to the good? Did you use the information in your shop manual? or did you just follow your instints?

The shop manual helped, but,I have a background in electro-mechanical repair,so I rely heavily on being cautious when taking things apart for the first time.My eyesight just isn't what it used to be,so that's why I was considering having the carb rebuilt.I had never taken a carb apart before, but, asking questions and really understanding what goes on inside helps. I used a magnifier to check float drop and float level, but,it really came in handy with the reassembly.I think I'll see if I can find another complete carb for the 53 and rebuild it as a spare, just for fun!Maybe I'll try a generator next, since it never hurts to have a back up.This is part of the hobby I never had time for until now,I really enjoyed it.

I think that is a good idea. Rebuilding spare starters, generators and carbs, wiper motors ect., ect. are good therapy for you and the feeling that you have learned something and also that you have accomplished a restoration on your old car parts should be a happy time.
