My car has no fuel filter (other than the sediment bowl), and I am wanting to install one. Should it go between the tank and the pump, or between the pump and the carb? Is there a particular make/model of filter that is best suited to this application? Thanks! Joel

I would place it between the pump and the carb. A pump can push better than pull. It would also be more visable.

have two of. the original one at the pump and an additional one just at the outlet of the gas tank. That one collects lot of dirt (even after cleaning the tank) and I change it every year. Stefan germany

this tucks very nicely out of sight in the frame rail. it is a filter designed for gasoline despensing pumps, it has a replacable cartridge of large capacity. it takes a few reducers to go from 3/4" female pipe to 5/16" tube, measures 11" x 2 3/4" I've installed this filter on several vehicles and currently have one on my 31. I've installed two, one after the gas tank and the other between the fuel pump and the carb. Both are hidden in the frame rail. Much easier to clean/replace a filter than to disassemble and clean the carb.

What do y'all think about the filter element that can be installed in the glass bowl on the fuel pump? I can't remember who makes it but I think the Filling Station sells it. Does it do a very good job? I would think it would have to be replaced fairly often since it isn't very big.

Sorry I meant to say the rear filter is in the frame rail The filter between the carb and the fuel pump is a very small glass filter with chrome end caps (about 2.5" long and a diameter a little smaller than a dime) with a filiment that can be cleaned (it was on my Harley). I had been having trouble with sediment so in addition to the filters I replaced the gas lines and cleaned and coated the gas tank. It's been about ten years and there have been no problems.

I use the filter in the pump from the Filling Station and it works great. I'm had mine in for a few years. This way you don't need to change any of your lines.

Thanks for all the input. After some consideration of all the options, I went with the glass filter bowl (from the FS) that installs ahead of the sediment bowl. Had to cut the line back a few inches, but otherwise was straightforward.

Glad that you can now drive your car and not worry about those little specks holding the needle valve open. Enjoy your ride.
