Matilda, the High Desert 1927 Coach, is on the road again. Mechanicals are working after a fashion. Now I can spend my beer money on making her classy again. LOL
She sounds just like Mr. 27Chevy described in his topic "1927 Chevy-Whats Normal" so I guess she is OK.
Thanks to this chat room and all you Chevy Good Guys out there.

We have a tour in Susanville, CA next week and then return home, shower, change clothes, and head for Glacier. See you soon.

Chip, What Ray said. Cal's tour is 9th - 13th.
I used info which I learned on this site again last night, after I made the above post. I received the amp gauge that bwbugay was kind enough to sell me. After installing it, I found the generator putting out 9 amps to a fully charged battery. I found the 3rd brush (which, by the way, had the locking screw already loose and full of crud and oil so it has been loose forever) and was able to adjust the amps to the center of the dial.
Now, I have a question.....In answer to my amp post 1928isgreat said to put a "kill switch on the earth" of the battery. Will I have the same result by using one on the plus side? I already have a disconnect on the plus side (I just did not have it off when the insulation failed on the old amp gauge with the battery maintainer in use).
Thanks again to all. Bob D.

Bob, Since the cutout is only a device to prevent draining the battery when the engine is off, it does not regulate the generator output. You have adjusted the third brush to zero the generator output. I adjust mine to 6-8 amps at slot to moderate engine speed. That way it does not boil too much water from the battery. Also you can run during the day with the headlights on which zeros the charging to the battery.
A kill switch on the positive post is the most effective and all that is needed. If also one on the negative post then there are two to go bad. Eventually they all will get corroded and you will not have any power.
Hope Matilda enjoys the tour. You and Bev too.

Then would'nt you have to polarize the generator every time?

Thanks you guys,
I did move the 3rd brush again. The battery was not getting enough charge from the generator. I see about 5 amps on the amp gauge now and battery was fully charged after a half hour test run.
I will leave the battery disconnect on the positive post.

At 5 amps it will take less than 10 minutes to restore the power required to start Matilda even if you grind on the starter for while before she starts.

WELL.....
Matilda was lead car for yesterday's road tour. She was really doing a good job. THEN...
She started making the most awful hammering noise you have ever heard!! Poor thing. It was terrible!!!!
The valve on the end of the brand new (72 miles) oil filter apparently came out of the filter (it is missing) and she dumped almost all of her oil. I had made sure the valve was closed but did not think about the factory not tightening the valve into the end of the tank. RATS!!!!!
SO...My intro to the original post on this thread is not true. Beer money will not be going for making her classy again. ...Yet...

Well, it was sad that Matilda, had a stomach ache and was embarrassed by riding home on the back of the tow truck. She had been leading all the tours up until she was struck with her malady. All was not lost as she had a stand in that took over this morning and did an admirable job in guiding us today. Matilda will have to submit to surgery, but she will be better for it.

Matilda is back on the road.
First break in run was yesterday after her major surgery and transplants.
Seems that she was in much worse condition than was originally thought. Poor gal was used and abused in her past life....had internal signs of major overheating and lack of lubrication....sigh.
All is well now. (I hope)

Great news! I knew she could withstand the surgery and bounce right back.
