While changing the steering column mast bushing on my 1939 master deluxe I noticed the original bushing has a slot in it where the set screw locates it and the new one does not. Is positioning it important? I am also replacing all of the glass in my car also. Should I use any silicone or any type of sealer between the new windshield rubber gasket and the body or any sealer between the glass and the new gasket? Do I use any sealer, glue or that fabric paper on the door glass where it is held by the metal glass holder? Thanks in advance.

I don.t recall a set screw in that loaction and the shop manual makes no mention of one nor dos=es the parts book. The same bushing (bearing) is used from 1939-1948.
Yes, a sealer must be used and it is just for this purpose. Its made by 3M. Of all things do not use silicone.
An aotomotive paint and body shop supply house should be able to get it for you.

Use gasket rubber made for the window for mounting the window glass to the metal frame. You can use wood clamps with 2x4 at the top and the bottom to push the glass into the metal frame. Take your time. The side windows rubber gaskets have a long edge on one side that goes toward the outside of the window that will somewhat seal the gap between the bottom of the window and the outside of the window opening in the door when the window is closed. Don't forget the bumpers that fit in the little half inch slots on the inside bottom of the door window frame (if they are in the 39). Restoration Specialties sells it, so do other places.
