Hello all...
I'm ready to pull off the brake shoe from my 32 sedan. What should I expect to pay to have them relined ? I have heard different prices so I'm looking for an average from the masses who have had them done.
Had the gas tank cleaned and lined with a spray on application. The guy who did it said it should last a long time pending I don't leave gas stored in it over several years. He said drain it completely if storing it for several years or if just for the winter than fill it up and use a gas stabilizer.
Anyways.... if I get the shoes relined I'm told I can have them back inside of 5 days. The tank took 5 days aswell.
Thanks again,
Cliff

Hello Cliff,

I had mine relined by a local industrial brake/friction company 3 years ago. I paid about $15 per shoe, and had all 12 shoes redone (1930 Coupe). Still work great, and when asked about the occasional squeel when stopping, I tell people that just lets me know the brakes are working.

I, too, took my '55 shoes and my 4 drums to a local industrial friction company. I explained to a knowledgeable guy that I wanted lining that had a good pedal feeling without much pressure and I didn't drive the car much and wasn't worried about long life shoes. That company measures the drums and makes the lining fit the drums formerly called arching the shoes. And I'm satisfied with the lining the company chose..

Since the prices may vary throught the USA and Canada, the best way to obtain an accurate quote on the brake linings is to call around in your local area and see what various shops would charge to reline your shoes.

when i relined my brakes a few years ago. i was lucky to find the linings on ebay (68$). (30 coach).
there is only one shop by me that relines brake shoes and clutches and they think they own the world. when i walked into this shop with my shoes and put them on bench. i was told 45$ per shoes. i told the guy you got rocks in your head and walked out with the guy saying i`m not going find i better price anywhere.

Hey LB, I am in Ottawa and got the rear bands on my 28 redone at Ottawa Clutch. The price for the linings was comparable to purchasing them from someone like Gary Wallace and the labour was about $80 for both bands. The work was exemplary and the price was respectable for us Canadians.

Hi
Checked with a place near Toronto and they wanted $25 a shoe, not bad, to have them riveted on it was an additional $5/shoe.
Carquest wanted $40/shoe, ouch!
Ideal supply said it would be between $5-$25/shoe but in the past they have found it cost ~$18/shoe. I left them there and they will get back to me tomorrow with the exact price. They ship them to Toronto (more than likely to Certified).
I will update again tomorrow when I know the exact price.
Cliff
Just a side note.... I can get a group 1 battery for between $65 and $80. Going to check a local farm supply company near me aswell.

If using woven linings, specify the green lining material, NOT the yellow. The green is softer and works well.

Hi all
I got the prices today. Large shoes are $25 and small are $22.50. These will be bonded and riveted. If I just go with bonded they are $4 cheaper. I will have them saturday.

I hope that you will be happy with the bonded shoes, however the bonded shoes that I know of are made for hydraulic brakes and they require more pressure to the drum to work well since they are usually the hard materials ,that last longer. I had the bands on my 28 done at an old car parts store for $75 per set of 2 bands and the only way to attach the softer woven material was to rivet it , as originally done.

If you put bonded linings on your car instead of the soft woven linings, which are used on mechanical brakes, I hope that you have a gorilla on board to help you to stop your car.

or consider installing an anchor to assist drink

all kidding aside. stopping, or trying to stop, with the hard linings is scary. the difference between the linings is like daylight and dark!

Hello
The brakes will be linings will be fastened to the shoes using an adhesive (bonded) and riveted. My instructions to the store was that these were for a car with mechanical brakes and therefore (softer linings). The company is aware of my needs as this was stressed vigorously.
Thank you for watching my back on this... it is appreciated.
