I called Chevys of the 40s and told them to ship me the heat paint so I could paint my exhaust manifold, it was looking rusty. Bad news..they said as of last month there is a new policy about mailing paint in a can. $24 a pint and they can't ship it. I bet they don't like that. Home Depot and Walmart both have heat paint for barbque grills, but it's in a spray can.I want to paint the manifold without removing it. Just for cosmetic reasons. I'm going to go to a speed shop today and try there. Obama must be tightning up on shipping hazardous materials. I can live with that if it helps fight terrorism. Times are changing.

BTW..here's another paint problem. If you go to Home Depot and buy spray can paint and choose the color gold, you have to show ID. Something about kids(maybe grown ups)sniffing the paint in a bag. The color gold has something extra that gives it a boost. Is that crazy or what?

I have used Por 15 and Eastwood's products, both worked very good. You should sand blast the manifold for good cleanup and adhesion. The Eastwood product I used on my 77 Impala in 1998 and it still has no deterioration. It is expensive and has to the applied according to all details of the paint instructions, including heating the manifold to burn off the paint residue. I use a friends old oven or my gas grill to set the paint properly before reinstalling the manifold. The color match is such that you may be tempted to use any remaining paint on parts that would look great that color. I don't see a part rusting after applying and setting the paint? I have never tried it on parts that come in contact with brake fluid, but maybe it would not even deteriorate there?
Good luck, Mike

Try some of stores that sell fireplace or wood stove supplies as well.

It's not how fast you can go, but how good you look at 20 MPH.

Steve from The Filling Station here. I just wanted to comment on the shipping of paint and other liquids. We can no longer send any liquids via air shipment. This includes anything going out of the country or by Priority Mail (which is air service). We are still able to send paint and other liquids via ground freight (UPS or FEDEX). There are severe fines for sending paint or other liquids via air carrier as it is strictly prohibited. That is why some companies have decided not to ship paint any more. We are continuing to sell the paints and restoration liquid products but we can only ship them via ground freight. No out of the country sales either. :(

Hey Steve from The Filling Station! Thanks for the information regarding the shipping of automotive paint. It is always neat to have the straight skinny on an issue.

In the City and County of Denver all aerosol propelled paint is kept in locked display cases and you have to prove that you are 21 or over to buy it. That is due to the graffiti problem. Somehow they don't think kids know how to go to the suburbs to buy it!

Pressure pack paint has been like that for 12 months or more here in Aus but it doesnt seem to deter the graffiti any.
I dont know about the air shipping regulations though.

Most any liquid that might pop the can from atmospheric pressure changes has had to go ORMD for years with the USPS and UPS.

I sell antique engine oil cans on eBay and the customers want them left full.
No problem, just mark them for ORMD (ground shipping) and off they go.

All out of the country shipping is now by air so liquids can't be sent.

It has nothing to do with grafitti, just damaging the mail.
