I just discovered the front I-beam axle on my 31 Sedan is bent. There are photos at http://31chevyproject.shutterfly.com/869#870.
I am guessing this can be straightened by a local body shop that has the capability? Probably should have it checked for cracks also? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks

Yes the straightening of the axel is doable.Using a screw on the hub front end aligning gauge a piece of rail road train track a
piece of chain and a 6T bottle jack will bend without harm..
I have done this on 25-26-27-31 chevys and a 34 ford that I hit
a concrete culvert with the left front wheel.

Any body shop should be able to handle the job, also most front end shops. The Ford PUs for many years had twin I beam front axles. They were adjusted by bending.

I have done the railroad track, chain and hydraulic jack to straighten dump truck frames to be fish plated and whamper-jawed front axles, which ain't rocket science, just be sure that the train isn't going to use the track around the same time! it makes things a bit complicated! as " old Red Green" would say!
