I am needing to find the tool to take the tires off the rims of a 1928 Chevy truck and I think the name of it is the Jaxon Rim Collapser. If this title is not right please let me know, and if you know where I might purchase one would be great . Thank you!!

Chipper I do see an answer, sorry I missed it. The tool wrench I need is simply called truck tire collapsing tool. Each wheel has 1 hole on each side of the rim that the tool hooks into and you simply pull the handle to seperate the rim or put it together again. If you have a Chev repair manual from 1928 there is a picture on page 261, fig 197. If this is not enough I'll attempt to put a picture through to you.

I have one of the tools pictured in the repair manual. Not sure where it is as I don't use it. Does not work as well as the three armed rim spreader.

If you are looking for a rim spreader to actually change tires with use the three armed rim spreader. I found mine on ebay. serch for: antique tire tool or rim spreader Hutch

The 3 arm type of rim spreader/collapsing tool does not work as successfully on the truck rims as the proper Jaxon rim collapsing tool. The 1 ton truck rims have 2 ridges running around the inside of the rim to locate the rim on the wheel felloe properly, and these 2 ridges stiffen the rim up considerably. If you use a 3 arm type rim tool, they tend to pull the edge of the rim over(the side you have the tool on)a lot, before they actually start to collapse the rim, which can lead to distortion of the rim. It's best to use the proper truck rim collapsing tool and work the tyre off with tyre irons.I've tried a 3 arm type on my '28 truck rims,as well as the proper Jaxon rim collapsing tool, and it's far easier and faster to use the Jaxon tool.

If you have problem with a three armed spreader on truck rims (I have not) then use two, one on each side.

Thanks for the meesage. You are correct aboutthe 3 armed &^%$ thing. I'm having some sucess but it is very frustrating. Chipper said he has one but can't find it. Otherwise no luck yet.
