Have you tried the Chevy club? they sell all those parts. I went to a junk yard and got a free fender and cut and paste and putty process. The larger back end of the rocket panels were none existing. I have pics of the process if you need? Got a mig welder?

very helpful to me and I would love to see some pictures,
you know what they say about a picture.
Please excuse my ignorance but what Chevy Club are you refering
to?.
To answer your second question, yes I have access to a mig.

I don't mean to butt in; but I presume Dads51 is referring to the "National Chevy Association." They're in MN.

Click on this.... National Chevy Association link

They have a good reputation....

Bill.

Hello Gene,
Sorry I always assume the forum folks find the forum through the National Chev assoc.,
Check out this link to photobucket, I'm not sure how to upload the photos directly? I have tried the Icon but ???? So you can click on the link below to see the photos.
Keep in mind I'm new to welding and I'm standing on my head with sparks flying into my face and ever were else. Plus the materials are super thin. Also the rocker panels and rock sheilds cover my so, so abilities. I used my own materials instead of repops because the repops look to me to be just one sided and I needed front and back. I jammed a 1" by 1/8" strap down the backside of the rocker panel channel(and lots of other places on the car) spot welded, grind and flatten, putty filled and smoothed. I kept checking to make sure all the trim pieces and wheel well covers would fit as I went along. I had simliar issues with a floor board on the passenger side. It had a Wyoming license plate with sheet rock screws going into cedar 1 x 4's on the bottom. Not sure that would pass on the concourse show room floor!

Hi
Did you do all that metal work without cutting the old rusty metal material out first? are you not afraid of the rust eating
through again?

Hello gnewt,
I did cut alot more out, then stopped any aditional rust with a rust stoping gel. I then hung the entire body at an angle with cables in my RV bay, put up false plastic sand blast room and went to town on it for about a week straight? Blast, sweep up media, wait for the compressor, and again and again! Should have paid to have it done. Primed the undercariage with DuPont ChromaPremier Free Etch Primer, and then black IMRON Semi gloss Polyurethane. PS I had double cables just in case, its a little scary under 1000 lbs? of steel.
See pics on link, since I haven't figured out how to put them on this forum?

Hello Dads51
How did you take the body off? I'm looking for a portable sand
blaster what make is yours and is it sufficient?
I'll bet being under the body is a little scary every little creak I'd be running for cover.keep posting those pictures I'm eating them up.

The body comes off with 10 bolts, on each side. And then I put big eye bolts through the furthest back bolts holes and hooked my cables to it and in the very front bolt holes. I used come alongs and chains and cables to get it up in the air. Having it at an angle to sandblast verses horizontal was my father in laws idea. The sand blaster is fine, better than the Harbor Freight $149. one I basically blew apart during the frame and others. This is a "Big Boy" $400 or so on E-bay. Lots better if you can keep up with the air.
And yes the body sways a bit as the sand hits it and it bothered me for a day or so.
Good luck!

Hey Dads51... I always open two browsers and flip between Photobucket and the VCCA chat. If you try to close the posting page on the VCCA site it will lose every thing you typed. You can flip to a second browser though. When you are on your Photobucket main grid page, hold the cursor over the small thumbnail pic that you want to post. A dropdown menu with three or four image codes will appear. Right click on the one that says IMG code (Usually the bottom one on my PB) and when the code turns blue hit 'copy'. Next flip back th the message you are writing and hit 'paste'. The code will show up like this...

I removed the first square bracket on the line before IMG so you can see the code. When the bracket is there, it looks like this! Nice job on the underside too... looks great!
