If i got a bit of water into my intake manifold and i pulled the plugs out and the carb off wil it evaporate? its been a week just sitting there and i didnt run it when i spilled it in. A fiji water bottle got knocked over, careless i know, its about 30 to fourty ounces of water, will it evaporate just sitting there or do i have to take the heads off and get it out myself?i noticed a little on two plugs but the others were dry and i stuck a straw in the plug hole and am not seeing anything wet now but i anm scared if i start it ill get hydrolocked, whats ur suggestion? thank u

If you pull the plugs and turn over the engine until you can't see any water droplets coming out of the holes then you will be okay.

OK i have water in my manifold and like chippers advice i cranked it with plugs out, it shot quite a bit of water out, more than i thought wouldve been in there, heard a low pop when it shot out figure just pressure, i cranked again a few seconds and each time i stop a little more comes out i can hear it but this last time my gas is now coming out the fuel hose( my carb is off by the way) and i am worried this is dangerous but i need the water out, should i keep cranking it? And how can i tell its all out? was kinda ugly and dirty like rust in the cylinders from looking at what came out. Thank u so much in advance.

If the carburetor is off you should plug the fuel line before you crank the engine!

I didnt plug it but instead put a gas can in there to catch it all, figured i cant have it going all over, i am not seeing traces of water coming out anymore, should i put some mmo into the cylinder you think, since there was water in there? I am looking pretty good now i do believe and am ready to get eveything else back together and fire this bad boy back up. woo hoo

If no more is 'shooting out', you are probably good to go. Some small droplets will not hydrolock the engine. first start might be rough, but as the engine warms up, all will be good.

well it did start and started up pretty rough like u said it would, now i think i got fauled up plugs or put the wrong wire on the wrong plug because it did misfire on me when i went into gear, this happend before with my other carb when i first started it up after a long sit. I put the mmo in the holes and my plugs were fauled. till i took them off and cleaned them up it ran like crap. So i am going to first check the plug wires i may have acidentally crossed(dont think i did tho) and then clean the plugs up. Any other advice as to why my carb backfired when i put it in gear and gave it gas?

Assuming a cold engine, intake valve open when a plug fires, as in wrong wire on wrong plug.

I let it run a while so all the pipes are hot right now, this does mean somethings firing in them and i beleive youre correct maybe a wrong wire, if i idle or give it a little gas it moves fine but as i open it up to an accelerate it pops and dies out. i hope i am looking in the right place and thank u for your advice.

Been a few years since i played with carbs, but it could also be an extreme lean out condition.

I have to say thanks so much for all of your help, i have to say i got the best advice from you when i got water into my manifold. I didnt know what to do and thought i was f"d. Pulling the plugs and cranking till water got out i never knew. I had problems after that similar to ones before my new carb. Misfires rough starts. Just headache crap, but for some reason i decided to pull the valve covers off since i figured i may be going into the heads. What do u know one rocker was so loose i could pull the rod out without unscrewing it. I did take it out, and it was slightly bent, the only one like that. I replaced all of them anyways tightend rockers back up. And the truck has been driving beautiful ever since. Now pack the bearings, and body work is whats on my plate now. Got a door that i cant get open. But I THANK YOU ALL. U really made my day. Now i really can go get a beer and relax for a bit. Wooohooo

Altho I'm basically a zero when it comes to mechanical stuff, I get a real kick out of this site. I followed this thread with great interest and I'm almost as excited as "helton" is about how this all turned out. Three cheers for those who posted advice and helped helton get his truck back on the road!!!
