Hi everyone - I normally hang out in the 1949 forum but my step mom is giving me my dad's 1966 Chevy C30 one ton. The engine block serial number is F0802TF. Is that the 292 cid engine?

I has been sitting for the last 17 years and only has 35000 miles on it. It has a hydraulic lift gate which is really nice. The bed rotted off twice. Dad started to replace the bed a 3rd time and was using pressure-treated wood so the bed main joices are good. I'll finish the bed.

I got it running last weekend but the carburetor was leaking so much where the throttle rod goes through the carburetor body that it didn't run well. I've rebuilt that carb now and hope to drive it home this weekend.

If anyone can shed light on the size of the engine for me, that will be appreciated!

Thanks,

Lee Prairie

F0802TF

Engines are stamped with a source, production date, and type...

F = plant, Flint
08 = month, August
02 = day, 2nd
TF = type, ...not sure about this one...my source only goes to '65 and does not mention a 292 with a TF code.

Someone here will correct this if I'm off base. nanana

The push rod cover on a 230 or 250 engine is about 4 1/4" tall.....the 292 is quite a bit taller.

didn't the 230s have the distributor toward the front of the block and the 292s it was in the center?

I don't have my book handy to check on the "TF" Code, but a quick way to check for a 292 is the Side Covers, as Gene mentioned, and the Staggered Motor Mounts. The 292 Side Covers are about 6 inches tall and the Motor Mounts are bolted not equally across from each other.

The 292 is one of my favorite engines.

Keep us posted.

Bill
