I recently acquired a 1951 Styleline Deluxe 4dr that is in pretty good shape and runs very well. It hadn't been driven much by the previous owner so I've been starting to go through it. The belt was very old so I replaced it and in doing so I noticed that the generator doesn't seem to be in line with the fan pulley. I'm not sure how I would adjust it but the generator looks to be about 1/2" back where it should. The belt tracks fine but is slightly angled. The car has its original 216 engine and most everything under the hood looks original including the generator. Any ideas how I can align this belt better?

Hi and welcome to our Chevy Chat II. I think you will find us a fairly nice group of folks and willing to help with your problems.

Take a close look at the mounting bracket for the generator. I think you will find that it has slotted mounting holes. By loosing the two mounting bolts you should be able to move the bracket and generator into better alignment.

Thanks, I will check that out. I've got new tires coming for it tonight anyway so I'll need to dig it out. I think the tires on it are about 20 years old. Remember Armstrong?

If sliding the bracket does not correct the problem you might try turning the bracket end for end. Some of the brackets have the mounting hols slightly off center.
