I saw one a long time ago... If someone would email it to me, I'd be happy to post it on the 1931chevrolet web site.

Would that be true for a 29 also? This is the first time in my adventure that I heard there is a difference in the percentages. How can one tell the difference?

I think he meant 22 degree, 45 degree angle, etc. on the direction the grease zerks point.

Chip sent this to me a couple years ago. It may help answer some questions in this thread. Sid
The list of grease fittings for 1931 passenger and 1/2 ton trucks is below. All fittings are installed to be easiest to service from the outside of the vehicle (except for the left front spring shackle. Those are installed to not interfere with the operation of the pitman arm and connecting rod.)
Grease fittings. Alemite pin type Nickel plated (accessory covers optional but were never installed by Chevrolet nor an approved accessory).
1 Straight. Left front spring eyebolt.
2 45 deg. Left front spring shackle (turned in away from pitman arm).
1 Straight. Right front spring eyebolt.
2 Straight. Right front spring shackle.
2 Straight. Tie rod end.
2 Straight. Steering connecting rod.
1 Straight. Left front king pin top.
1 45 deg. Left front king pin bottom.
1 Straight. Right front king pin top.
1 Straight. Right front king pin bottom.
1 45 or 90 deg. Left rear spring eyebolt.
1 90 deg. Right rear spring eyebolt.
1 45 deg. Left rear shackle top.
1 Straight. Left rear shackle bottom.
1 45 deg. Right rear shackle top.
1 Straight. Right rear shackle bottom.
1 Straight. Left rear spring saddle.
1 Straight. Right rear spring saddle
1 Straight. Steering gear housing.
1 Pipe plug. Universal housing.

JYD posted: "Yep...and they are Alemite fittings not Zerk fittings."
What is the difference between the two types? I assume this means they are not interchangeable - is that correct?
Thanks, Mark

What year did Chevrolet start using the Zerk type (no pins) fittings?
Thanks, Mark

J-Y-D - My 1933 Eagle coupe had Alemite fittings. I personally changed them all to zerks 46 years ago. Being an early series model, there were some differences compared to other eagle models I have seen. Like my wing window handles are knobs instead of cranks and my trunk handle is like the '32s.

When I bought my '31 Coach, among a trunk full of old parts was a small box containing about 2 dozen of these strange little fittings with pins sticking out the sides. I had no idea what they were. While getting the engine rebuilt by an 80 year old mechanic, I pulled out the box to show him and he of course knew they were the original grease fittings, and that mine had been converted to the Zerk type likely 50 years earlier(car had not been on road for 45 years). They make a good souvenir, and I think I'll mark the box so the next owner knows what they are!.

That is a good idea, I gave up trying to grease my 28 with the Alimite fittings, using the Chinease Alimite grease adaptor, pulled them all , used a stiff wire to clear the grease path and screwed in Zerks. I cleaned up all the original Alimites, put them in a box and decided that if I ever had the car judged, (unlikely it is original except for the paint job) and added on door hinge mirrors battery and tires. I am like JYD I want to drive the old sister just like it is, We just throw an afgan over the old original pipe and cigarette burn spots and the dirty spots. I been told that I better replace the glass with safety glass, but not I, it is clear as a bell, no chips or cracks. If I did a lot to it and put a lot of money in it,I probably wouldn't want to drive her at 55 MPH once in a while, and listen to all the songs that the driveline sings! Anyway, only a choice few old ladies and gents will ever get an invite to ride with us.
Life's a long winding trail, love Jesus and ride a good horse!
