I just overhauled my 53 235 PG engine. All new parts seals and gaskets, but now I have an oil leak from the rear main.
Do I have to remove the engine again?
I have the pan removed and rear main bearing cap removed.I cannot see a problem, the neopreme seal is correctly installed and the graphite seal looks ok.
Oh I installed a new oil pump and had 60 lbs oil pressure at idle, is this too much pressure? Is this the reason for the leak at the rear main?

Neoprene seal correctly installed and graphite seal seal looks OK??????????

The engine will have onlyONE seal only. The original and correct seal is the rope or wick type. The replacement graphite seal makes a good replacement. There is only one seal grove.
The neoprene seal can be used for replacement on 1955 AND NEWER ENGINES ONLY. The oil grove is too deep on a 1953 and thee seal lip will not contact the crankshaft and a severe leak will result.
While the 60 pounds at idle should not cause a leak it is way too much pressure (is the oil gauge from a 1953 stick???
I would reuse the original pump.

This is a Canadian 1953 235.
It is a full pressure with insert rods.
It is a stick shift, but PG engine.
It came from a 1953 Chevrolet Canadian truck.
