Hello Everyone! Recently my father passed on his 1930 chevrolet coupe that has been sitting in his garage for a few decades now. It is an all original car and I would like to bring it back to as close to "new" as possible. So as I start this process, I have two questions for everyone:

1) Are there any good part resources out there, be it used or new? Also, I would love to find some manuals/history books that talk about the 1930 chevy, justnto had much luck

2) Were the main bearings on these 6 cyl motors "poured"? Pretty sure I have a bad bearing that will need replacing!

Look forward to the responses and keeping everyone posted on the car's progress! thanks!

Jason

Hi Jason, Welcome to the chat site. You will get all of your questions answered here for sure. I see that you are not a VCCA member yet. You should consider that for even more infomation and a great monthly magazine. If you click on my name you can send me a PM (personal message). I have a 31 coupe that I restored and I live in Arroyo Grande. Send me your phone number and we can talk. yay

Congrats on your inheritance!

Second, how do you know you need new bearings? The "stovebolt six" was a pretty tough engine. Almost bullet proof so to speak. If you dont have any knocking and no dull bump like a main going out then your probably still OK.

They were babbit bearing and yes they were poured.

The best of all parts supply out there for your chevy is the filling station by far. http://fillingstation.com/ I do have another parts contact for those "harder to find" parts if needed. Like stuff they dont reproduce.

I'll let someone else let you in on VCCA. It's a must club to join.

Hi Jason,

Welcome to the Chat page! So the VCCA has a fee of $35 a year with free advertising for parts. You will also find a lot of the parts you will need in the monthly magazine.

One other person you need to get to know is Larry Hanson, he is really into 1930's. Sal can help you to get hook up with Larry. Larry is in the LA area I think.

Also on the mains or rods you might be able to remove a shim and fix your problem.

You can also contact Larry Jackson in Santa Maria. He also has a 1930 Chevrolet coupe.

Thnk you for your responses everyone!! I would love to meet some of the local guys when I get the car up in my garage in a few weeks and take a good look at my car.

The last time the motor had run it did have a knock according to my father, and he thought something else may have been happening in terms of the water leaking into the motor. I do hope to bring the car back to all original, as my dad was a "pure-ist" so I would like to continue his tradition. I have a old 1927 model t frame that will probably get turned into a T-bcket but go this 30 to do first and then a 31 model A truck. Just can not wait!!!

Does anyone have a book or website that talked specifically about the 30 chevy?

No one has ever heard of "32confederate", and the few that have believe he belongs to the Ford club anyway.

07962 is the VCCA membership number of the Junkyard Dog. Besides, this old mutt visited Santa Maria once way back in 1983.
