Woodbutcher;
5W30 or 10W30 will be fine. Remember your engine is a splash oil system. Never use heavy oil like straight 30 a 20W50. If you do , you'll be rebuilding the engine again very soon.

Hi woodbutcher,

You can use the synthetic oil, but why? Just use a good grade of 10-30 oil.

If you have not started the engine for the first time, use a drill to drive the oil pump and run the drill until you have good oil pressure. In addition to the splash delivery your engine has several reservoirs that need to be filled that feed the mains and the cam.

Thanks for the reply. Most of the parts stores around here only stock 10W-30 in synthetic. I put it in and turned the oil pump with a drill for about 1-2 minutes had 10 PSI on the gauge. Now I am just waiting for my wiring harness and I should be ready to go.

Is there a trick to priming fuel system?

Thanks

You can do two things at the same time. Remove the spark plugs. When you have the oil system primed, turn the engine over with the starter. This will draw enough fuel up into the vacuum tank to start the engine.

Am I missing something? No regular 10-30 oil? Must be a way to bump up the sales?????
