I have been presented with an option that on the surface sounds like a good idea. It was suggested to me to add a 6 volt fuel pump and shoot the fuel through the old fuel pump to make it look like it's working. I have talked to JYD about the leaking around the top and his thoughts is it's warped. Would I be better off just rebuilding the fuel pump or is the electric add-on a good idea. Thanks!

I'm sure other guys will chime in here with more expertise than me - but I'll tell you what I think.
In general, stay away from the electric fuel pump. These old carbs are designed to run on a very low fuel pressure. The electric pump will overwhelm it and flood it. Then, you'll have to start working on putting a pressure regulator in the line. More complication, and more deviation from original.
The original fuel pump worked just fine when the car was new. It'll work just fine now, if properly rebuilt. If it's warped, find one that isn't, and rebuild it. This is a better way to spend your effort and money, and the result will be more satisfying and perfectly functional.

if the warpage isn't too severe, lay a piece of 400 grit sandpaper on a piece of flat glass, then true up the top's mounting's surface by gently running the top across and circularly on the sandpaper. use a straight edge to evaluate your progress. agree with the above boys that electric fuel pumps are best suited on streetrods. mike

Thanks you guys. Good point about the flooding situtation and getting the top taken care of seems doable. Thanks agaIn.
