I was able to send away for a restoration package for all previous projects. I think this was provided by Chevrolet and also free. With my new project I called the 800 number on three year old receipt from last project and appears to now be a car dealership. Anyone have a current address/phone number to obtain this literature? Very handy to have as in my case I now have a 1960 GMC Suburban and could use the extra knowledge.
Thanks
Bob

I got the same Engineering information packet from Chevrolet many years ago for my '37, but have not had an opportunity to request any again until recently, when I bought my '63 p/u, but have not done so yet.

I would not be suprised at all to find it no longer exists due to the GM financial situation. The unions & the US government now own & run GM and I would imagine spending money to offer a free service to collectors, would not go over too well at their board meetings. Welcome to the new reality!

Hey guys, I read on the "stovebolt" that the resto-paks are still available, but that GM now charges for them. Here is a link to the information, as provided by the good folks at Stovebolt. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/GMRestoPak.htm

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info on the Restoration Package from Chevy. Was a nice free service while it lasted. I think I'll use that money for a good shop manual.

They still have that service in Canada but there is a charge. When I asked for one for my 38 they told me that all they had was the Engineering package. They said that all the VIN specific information of the pre-WWII vehicles was destroyed during the war so that no one else could get the information. Is that weird or what?

For pre-war cars GM Canada only makes available the production numbers and very basic serial# breakdown. That's all they claim to have though it sounds like they had more a decade or so ago.

The guys were always good to speak with but last I heard they closed the vintage services a year ago in Oshawa as part of the cut-backs. It's possible they have some green guys doing it part time now so the info/expertise may be very limited.

I obtained my package a couple of weeks ago. I think the charge was the same as I paid for my other package in 2003 and the name on the letter was the same.

For calls within Canada about the restoration package, use 888 467 6853. Outside of Canada use 905 440 7636 or 905 440 7618. I obtained the package for my 38 on Mrach 26, 2010.

Hey guys.......

Don't forget Keith Hardy's site for some of these Resto Packs.

So what is wrong with that? Perhaps you could sell the extra bolts for a small profit.

A restro pack for a 1928 Chevrolet from the GM Heratige center is $50.00. You can down load and print from the Hardy project for the cost of the paper and ink.

I don't worry too much about the bolts, but I do worry about all those left over odd-ball looking parts that have bolt holes in them, sometimes they may effect the way the car drives, anyway that is what I have been told.

Those extra parts are a bonus. Stick with one year car and restore enough of them, eventually you have enough extra parts to build another car. Who says nothing is free any more?
