I'm looking for suggestions for a pair of mufflers for my 72 Caprice with 400 ci engine. I want something with a quiet mellow sound. Presently, I have Brockman Mellowtones which are too loud and have ticking noise on acceleration. No exhaust leaks; ticking comes from tailpipes. Anybody had experience with this or can recommend something they've used ?

Hello Brew,
I purchased a set of mufflers from Waldron's Antique Exhaust in Michigan(269-467-9041 or 800-503-9428 or waldronexhaust.com)for my'70 Impala.I can honestly say as a life long B-body lover, these mufflers are the best sounding I've ever had.

I called Mr.Waldron and told him I have a stock 350 powered '70 Impala that I'm putting a set of stock piped duals on and am looking for a stock size/look mufflers that were slightly louder than stock but not turbo aftermarket sounding. He said they make all their mufflers in house and could make just what I was after.Well Mr Waldron delivered!I am 100% satisfied with the sound, look and quality.
I do not run resonators,just the 2 mufflers.Price was $175 delivered to the house.Hope this helps,Jim

Jim,

You were one of the lucky ones.

I purchased a complete stainless system from Waldron a few years ago - while at Hershey. The system was miserable and was not even close. I was specific about stainless mufflers and supplied the dimensions. They built them BACKWARDS! Mr Waldron would not replace them - as he stated they were made in Canada and he could not return them.

Sooooooo - the last 8 exhaust systems I needed I did not purchase from him.

Mr Brew,
I would go to Holz Motors in Hales Corners and ask for Roger in the parts dept. He will be able to supply you with what you need.

I need to post a clarification to my Waldron complaint.

I have learned today - 03/05/10 that Waldron was sold to a new owner in the year 2006. My complaint is about a system that I purchased prior to the change of ownership.
