I've called at least 6 shops trying to get glass installed in my 38 coupe. Everyone says the same thing. We are covered up and can't get help. It's that way on everything you try to get someone to do. I can't believe we have 10% unemployment ! One owner said 8 of of 10 can't pass the drug test. Home Depot even has a sign saying don't apply if you can't pass a drug test. I guess I'm venting !!! I'm thinking about trying to do it myself. At least I know when I'll be finished ...Grin

It's a sign of the times. If we don't relax some of the drug abuse thresholds then pretty soon we're gonna have to to perform all sorts of services for ourselves. You will note that I'm not saying we should but merely that what will happen. I don't know the answer here.

Back to the glass. I don't think I can do the glass work on mine. If I meet up with a problem like yours, I gonna go with whatever is in the frame. Might do the vent windows, that looks like something I could do (read screw up) all by myself.

In order to keep this within the bounds of propriety for this forum, just when did the Chevrolet cars come with the safety plating? Did all windows get it at one time? May have been asked and answered. You'all know what to do. Fire away.

I have a 38 also. Got my glass from a glass guy in Vancouver, Washington. The glass fit like a glove. He sold the business but give it a try. I spent more for this glass because he etched the correct info on the glass, just like 1938! Beautiful reproduction!
Check out: http://www.sandersreproglass.com/
Also, the quarter window with the chrome moulding (he installed the chrome) didn't fit the car so he adjusted the fit at no extra charge!
Maybe the new owner has the same guys working for him.
Also, I did it myself, with no prior experience! The chevy guys on the chat sites were a BIG help, you can do it! Take your time and enjoy.
One more thing: Chev's of the 40's, I & I Reproduction, and The Filling Station will have all the felt and rubber parts.

Steve,

I bought the body manual from Chevs of the 40's and installed every piece of glass in my car myself. The manual gives instruction and pictures.

It is not that hard. I also put in all new channels and rubber parts. Give it a try.

I have the glass and rubber. Steele rubber and the glass came from Bobs Glass. All I need is someone who knows how to install it. If something doesn't work out in a few days I guess I'll try it. I've seen people doing it but I didn't pay that much attention abot the way they did it. I'll keep everyone updated with photos.

If you don't have confidence then copy a few pages from a Fisher Body Manual. There are several on the old car manual project website http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/ The process is basically the same for many years.
