The radiator shell on my '46 1/2 ton pickup mounts to the front cross-member with two carriage bolts through square cut holes in the shell, through a soft pad and shims, then on the under-side of the cross-member each bolt has washers, a coil spring and a nut. The restoration parts houses sell new shell mounting kits that have much shorter carriage bolts and on the underside of the cross-member they have no washers or springs, just a lock washer and nut. I have heard both that the longer bolts and springs are original, and that they are not original. Anybody have an idea if the longer carriage bolts with springs mounted under the frame are original or not?

I cannot speak specifically to the mounting on your '46 1/2 ton, but I don't recall ever seeing springs under the radiator support on any of my cars/trucks with the two bolt setup you describe.

1935 Standard Coupe
1936 1.5 ton
1938 1/2 ton
1939 1/2 ton
1941 1.5 ton

My '46 has the springs. I have parted out several of these trucks and they all had the springs.

Thanks for the input, it seems like the springs under the cross-member were on too many trucks not to be original at some point, so I guess I'll put mine back together with the longer bolts and springs. Thanks again.
