I have a 1946 1 Ton Panel with a 1954 235 engine. I've decided to restore with the 235. Did the 1946 originally have engine side splash pans? If so, will they fit the 235 block OK? Does anybody have some pans and the little brackets that probably hold the ends?
Thanks.
Doug

I've been watching Ebay for over a year for engine splash pans for my 40 Chev 1/2 ton, and have seen perhaps a dozen sets for sale in that time. In fact, I've bought four of them, hoping to get a really good pair out of the lot. My 1929-52 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog shows the pans as Group 8.112, Pan, Engine, Part No. 3652740 , right side, and Part No. 3665129, left side. The book says these fit 37-46, All Commercial (ecxept 1 Ton). All 37-46 1 ton commercial and utility used different part numbers for their pans.
Of the four sets that I've collected, they all appear to be very similar except that some have a slightly wider hole spacing for the two holes for the frame rail mounting screws.
My 40 1/2 ton truck has a 1948 216 block, and any of the pans I have will work, though, as mentioned above, on some of the pans, the mounting screw hole spacing is not correct. I don't know, but I expect the wider spaced mount holes may be for trucks with the 235 motor, although the motor size would seem to be totally independent of the mounting hole spacing on the frame rail.
All of the pans I have will work on my truck, by simply re-drilling the frame mounting holes or the pan holes. However, because the 1 ton uses a different part number, the pans for your truck may be a completely different animal.
There's a good looking set of pans for sale on Ebay right now, ending soon, No. 200424546853. They look just like the pans I have that fit my 1/2 ton.

The 216 and 235 engines are the same width. In fact the 1940-1954 216 and 235 and 261 engines all used the same oil pan gasket. The chassis/frame make the difference.

I may have some brackets. I'll venture out in the garage and see if I actualy do. They would be really easy to make if needed.

I will be installing the correct splash pans in my 37 with a 57 235 and I think there might be a couple differences,on the pass side you will have to get a 46 road draft tube so it will go through the hole in the pan and on the drivers side the hole for the exhaust pipe might be in a different spot. I think there is a different angle on the manifold where the pipe bolts on between a 216 and 235 so you might need to get a custom exhaust pipe bent to go out the hole in the splash pan,I have fenton headers on my 37 so I will have to do some whacking on the drivers side on mine.

I have a '54 235 in my '46 1/2 ton and if you use the '54 manifold setup the angle the exhaust pipe exits will not match the hole for the exhaust pipe in the splash panel. Rather than cut a new hole in the splash panel I just got some special 216 to 235 intake port ring adapters and mounted my '46 216 intake and exhaust manifolds on the 235. The original '46 splash shields match up perfect to the '54 235 block and the exhaust port.

Tuzman,
Could you tell me where you got the intake port rings that fit a 235 eng with 216 manifold. Could use them on my 48 car with 235 in it.
Thanks.
Jim.
