I have been working on installing my Trico wiper motor, and can't seem to figure out how the vac line was routed.
I have two copper lines comeing out of the vac switch on the dash, one line connect's to the stewart fuel pump for vac, but the other copper line runs under the dash towards the steering column but ends there with a compression fitting.
Does this vac line continue up the inside of the windshield pillar and behind the regulator board to exit through the header panel to the wiper pump???
Or does it exit the windshield pillar and run in front of the header panel under the windshield visor to the pump???
I have checked both windshield pillar and header panel and see no exit hole for this vac line.
I don't see any reference in any of my books on this vac line.
Any help on this would be great.

Originally the W/S wiper vacuum line was routed from the control valve to the left front door hinger pillar, vertically upward in the hinge pillar, across the W/S header board in a groove provided in the rear surface under the fabric covering, with a 90º bend forward through the header board just left of the wiper motor. The tubing was 3/16" in diameter. Look at the exterior metal covering of the W/S header and you should see a 1/4" dia. hole just left of the wiper motor.

Many people remove the wiper motor and during reinstallation they install them upside down. The correct installation is with the curved portion of the motor pointed upward which (providing you have the correct wiper motor) positions the vacuum hose nipple of the motor pointing to the left at the vacuum line outlet in the W/S header.

Thank you Oldie this help's me alot.
It will take a little bit of patience to get the line routed in it's proper location (But that's the fun of it).
would you have a pic of an original 28 Trico that would of been on the AB national's you could post??
I have a couple of wiper motors but not sure if they are correct, They don't have any part #'s on them to go by.
Thank's again.

Batwing wiper mounting bracket

My 28 didn't have a wiper on it when I bought it. I bought a new modelA F0RD wiper on eBay (it is different, it has the ON-OFF control on top of the wiper motor. I had the original holes in the outside of the header panel and from the holes I made a batwing bracket out of aluminum, it isn't correct because I made it a half circle. I drilled and countersunk the holes to mount the bracket on the car, and drilled the holes for the wiper motor mounting legs and used 1/4" bolts with extra washers and nuts to extend the mounts so that the wiper motor would clear the bracket. then mounted it. It looks pretty good unless you get really close. Since I didn't have a batwing bracket or a picture of one I ended yp with the wiper motor mounted up really close to the visor. Since I have this set of pictures and I bought a new old stock wiper motor for a Chevrolet I need to re do the thing. I got a used control valve from Walt Davenport at a VCCA tour and have it and the tubing mounted on the dash. The new old stock wiper motor is still in the original box and it is put away for safekeping, probably will continue to use a F0RD wiper motor as they are plentyful.

MR Mack,

The wiper motor picture posted is not the correct one for the 28. I sent that photo as a warning of what now to purchase. The mounting pads on the correct 28 wiper motor are approximately 1/4 inch high. The picture shows a motor that I purchased by mistake that has mounting pads approximately 3/4 high.

Thanks Dick, I didn't notice the commentary on the second email because I was concentrating on getting the pics downloaded and sized to where I could see them on one page. Here is the correct wiper motor:

if you notice it is different than the one for a F0RD, no on-off control slide and the mounts are thinner, also when the motor is mounted the inlet hose barb is pointed toward the tubing exiting the header panel You will need the Chevrolet control valve mounted in the dash opposite the choke control.
These wiper motor control valves are being reproduced at a cost around $100. A simple on off valve won't work correctly, the correct valve original Control valve that I have will also park the wiper blade when turned off.

Andy, Gary Wallace (Gary Wallace (314-293-1991) has them in his online catalog.
Early Chevrolet Parts
Gary's catalog lists the 28 and 29 as different. He has both listed along with 25-26-27. they are $105 each.

The wiper control valve is a seperate unit that mounts on your dash, and are hard to find without paying an arm and a leg for them, if you can find one.
I think the online catalog is only for the wiper motor but they may have the control valve, you will have to check to see if it is offered in the online catalog.
Is your valve missing or is it broken????

I believe the listing is for the control valve only and not the motor.
